The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) announced that it has further extended deadlines to June 15, 2020.
In order to reduce the impact of COVID-19 and ensure intellectual property owners are not prejudiced by the pandemic, CIPO has further extended deadlines under the Patent Act, the Trademarks Act and the Industrial Design Act to June 15, 2020.
The Registrar of Trademarks will consider requests for additional extensions and may also use her discretion to extend deadlines on her own initiative, where it is in the interest of justice to do so. CIPO promises that it will continue to monitor the circumstances and may further extend the deadlines if necessary.
Intellectual property owners should consult their Canadian agents about specific deadlines to ensure their rights are protected during this pandemic.
